Rib’e Lugá Registration Period Extended Until October 31, 2026

Willemstad – The Council of Ministers has decided to extend the registration period for the Rib’e Lugá project by three months. As a result, registration will remain open until October 31, 2026.

Rib’e Lugá was established to provide eligible individuals with the opportunity to have their residency status registered in a careful and responsible manner. In doing so, the project contributes to an accessible and responsible immigration policy, strengthens legal certainty for those involved, and provides the Government with a better understanding of the residency status situation in Curaçao.

Since the start of the project on May 1, 2026, many people have taken advantage of the opportunity to register. At the same time, the experiences gained over the past few months have provided valuable insights. For example, it has become clear that part of the target group needs more time, personal guidance, and support to complete the registration process fully and carefully. In addition, several practical implementation issues have emerged during the execution of the project, which will be addressed together with the partners involved.

The extension is therefore a deliberate decision aimed at achieving the objectives of the project as fully as possible. The additional period gives participants the opportunity to carefully complete their registration and make use of support that is tailored to their personal circumstances. At the same time, it provides room to make use of the experiences gained and to further strengthen the implementation of the project where necessary.

Minister of Justice Shalten Hato explains the decision as follows:

“Rib’e Lugá is an important project that contributes to a careful and accessible immigration policy. The experiences of the past few months have shown that part of the target group needs more time and personal guidance than could initially have been anticipated. With this extension, we are consciously choosing quality and diligence, so that as many eligible individuals as possible can complete their registration properly. In doing so, we serve both the interests of those involved and those of Curaçao.”

The Ministry of Justice will continue to closely monitor the implementation of Rib’e Lugá, together with the organizations responsible for its implementation and the civil society partners involved. The coming months will be used to reach the remaining target group as effectively as possible and to provide participants with the support they need to successfully complete the registration process.

Individuals who belong to the target group and have not yet registered are encouraged to take advantage of the extended registration period and not wait until the last moment.
