General
You can submit an application for a residence permit to stay in Curaçao for a shorter period of time.
The Minister of Justice decides on the application and determines if you qualify for a residence permit for a maximum of 6 months. The aforementioned shall occur in accordance with article 9 of the National ordinance Admission & Deportation (hereinafter LTU).
You can submit an application as a:
- Wealthy investor, snowbird (winter guest),
- Remote worker/ digital nomad (employee not covered by the National ordinance Labor Foreign national (hereinafter: LAV)) or ordinary employee (in the sense of article 5 LAV) who applies for admission to Curaçao for a maximum of 6 months.
- Employees in the sense of article 5 LAV are, in principle, all employees for whom the employer is obliged to request an employment permit.
SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION
Before submitting the application, make sure you have collected all the requirements. If so, the application can be submitted. All requirements must be scanned in PDF format. Click here to submit the application.
DECIDING ON YOUR APPLICATION
After the application has been submitted, the Admission Office has 4 months to take a decision on your application. You must await the decision on a first application abroad. After the decision is ready, it will be e-mailed to you.
If you have received a positive decision, you must make an appointment to receive the residence permit. Click here to make the appointment.
If you have received a negative decision, you then have 6 weeks to submit a notice of objection. The notice of objection must be e-mailed to info@immigrationcur.org.
Wealthy investor/Snowbird
You are eligible for this purpose of stay for a maximum of 6 months, if you:
- Have at least Ang. 36.000,- in financial means; or
- Own a house or apartment in Curaçao (real estate); or
- Are the owner of a pleasure boat/ yacht moored in Curaçao, which boat, measured on the waterline, has a length of at least 10 meters (registered property).
The requirements for submitting the application are:
- Proof of payment Fees & Retributions0;
- Clear copy of the photo page of the applicant’s passport. If the passport holder’s signature is on another page in the passport, also include a copy of this page (passport valid for at least 6 months upon submission);
- Show Proof of solvency by means of:
- Proof disposal of at least Ang. 36.000,00 or
- Proof ownership house or apartment in Curaçao (proof Kadaster Curaçao) or
- Proof ownership pleasure boat (at least 10 meters measured on the waterline) or
- Bank guarantee from a local bank (not older than 3 months) of at least Ang. 650.000,-;
- If an authorized representative (third party) is used:
- An original authorization letter signed by the applicant (not older than 6 months) and
- A copy of the valid identification document of the authorized representative.
NOTE: If you have dependent family member(s), you must also submit a short stay application for each of them.
Here are the necessary additional requirements for submitting their application:
- Copy of supporting documents family law connection for family member(s) of the wealthy investor, snowbird.
- If dependent family member(s) of the wealthy investor, snowbird are younger than 18 years: supporting documents showing that the legal representative agrees to the stay.
COSTS
Fees and retributions are due before submitting the application. For the first application, you have to pay an amount of Ang. 535,=. Payment must be made at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank. On the payment order, you can find the necessary information to make the payment.

Remote workers
You are eligible for this purpose of stay if you come to work for a maximum of 6 months and your employer based abroad offers you the opportunity to work remotely.
The requirements for submitting the application are:
- Proof of payment Fees and retributionsº;
- Clear copy of the photo page of the applicant’s passport. If the passport holder’s signature is on another page in the passport, also include a copy of this page (passport valid for at least 6 months upon submission);
- If an authorized representative (third party) is used:
- An original authorization letter signed by the applicant (not older than 6 months) and
- A copy of the valid identification document of the authorized representative;
- Show Proof means of subsistence by means of:
- Recent declaration of assignment, if own company in country of origin, or
- Recent Employer’s Declaration of employer in country of origin or a recent certified copy of employment contract.

Fees and retributions are due before submitting the application. For the first application, you have to pay an amount of Ang. 535,=. Payment must be made at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank. On the payment order, you can find the necessary information to make the payment.
NOTE: If you have dependent family member(s), you must also submit a short stay application for each of them.

- If dependent family member(s) of the remote worker are younger than 18 years: supporting documents showing that the legal representative agrees to the stay.

Employment, in the sense of article 5 Lav
You are eligible for this purpose of stay if you come to work for a locally based company for a maximum of 6 months and this employer has a valid employment permit on your behalf.
The requirements for submitting the application are:
- Proof of payment Fees and retributions0;
- Clear copy of the photo page of the applicant’s passport. If the passport holder’s signature is on another page in the passport, also include a copy of this page (passport valid for at least 6 months upon submission);
- Original criminal background check from the last place of residence (not older than 3 months);
- Employment in the sense of article 5 LAV:
- Copy valid employment permit and
- A fully completed original guarantee declaration³, signed by his/her employer (guarantor/referent),with an adhesive stamp of Ang. 10,=
- Employer’s Declaration completed and signed by his/her employer, with a copy of a valid identification document of employer² and a stamp of Ang. 10,=;
If an authorized representative (third party) is used:
- An original authorization letter signed by the applicant (not older than 6 months) and
- A copy of the valid identification document of the authorized representative.

3If guarantor (person or is a sole proprietor) is married, the partner must also sign the guarantee declaration and submit a copy of his/her valid identification document.
Maritime crew
You are eligible for this purpose of stay if you are staying on board a ship as a crew member and during the voyage you are actually charged with work that is in any way related to the ship.
The requirements for submitting the application are:
- Proof of payment Fees & Retributions0 (show original for inspection);
- Copy of valid passport (if several nationalities, copy of all passports);
- Copy internationally recognized and valid seaman’s book;
- Original guarantee declaration, fully completed and signed by the shipping agent and the captain with an adhesive stamp of Ang. 10,=;
- Declaration from the captain that the relevant maritime crew is of impeccable conduct;
- Copy of contract with ship’s agent: ship’s agent must submit a proof that she has been contracted/designated by the captain as the ship’s agent;
- Copy of muster list or “joining letter” as a proof that the maritime crew is employed on the ship.

Legalization
For whom is legalization possible?
- On your last application for a renewal/change, you had an issued temporary residence permit, the renewal of which was not submitted on time; and
- Have not been staying here for longer than 12 months without a valid title; and
- Have not left Curaçao for serious reasons.
Please note:
The short stay permit for legalization is not intended for individuals who have never had a valid residence before. In other words, if you want to submit an application for the first time for the exemption from the provisions of article 6 paragraph 1 LTU, you shall not be eligible for a short stay permit for legalization.
The requirements for submitting the application are:
- Proof of payment Fees & Retributions0 (show original for inspection);
- Clear copy of the photo page of the applicant’s passport. If the passport holder’s signature is on another page in the passport, also include a copy of this page (passport valid for at least 6 months upon submission);
- Copy valid employment permit or Proof of application and Proof of payment;
- Original Employer’s Declaration², completed and signed by employer with a copy of valid identification document of the employer;
- Original guarantee declaration³, fully completed and signed by employer, with an adhesive stamp of Ang. 10, =
